To be the number 1 in the world, Dominik Paris, like all other Italian alpine skiers, relies on Mapei Sport. With this short video made at the beginning of October 2018, we reveal to you what “tortures” the technicians of the Olgiate Olona research center submitted him at the beginning of a season that turned out to be a dream. Domme has achieved seven victories in the World Cup and won the SuperG cup, the first general classification of his career.
«Over the years our structure has developed specific systems for monitoring athletes who practice alpine skiing. These include the “eccentric press”, a unique prototype in the world, conceived and developed by the physiologist Piero Mognoni and professor Aldo Sassi. The press simulates with good approximation some specific physical demands that the skier must support on the snow. Skiers are subjected to repeated eccentric-concentric contractions that follow what happens in the curve phases» explains Ermanno Rampinini, head of the Human Performance Lab (HPL) of Mapei Sport and consultant for team sports such as football, basketball and winter sports.
«In the laboratory we are thus able to put athletes under a stress similar to the one they encounter in skiing with the possibility of carrying out specific assessments of physical qualities. Eccentric strength is one of the determinants of performance: athletes at every turn must resist the centrifugal force imposed by high speed. Furthermore, there is a lot of sensitivity in the feet. The ability to modulate the force is crucial to keep the speed in the curve as high as possible. In addition to these neuromuscular qualities, we also measure the explosive strength of the lower limbs and the efficiency of the aerobic mechanism, that is the qualities of resistance».
The Italian Winter Sports Federation, which from 2001 up to at least the next Beijing 2022 Olympic Games for alpine skiing has chosen Mapei Sport as its ally, has many other goals to reach.
